January is full of great FREE events for poets and lovers of poetry in the Mankato area.

January 10, 2012 at 7pm at the Ostrander Auditorum at MSU – a FREE Slam Poetry performance by Shihan, the Poet.  One of the most dynamic spoken word artists of our generation according to some – this promises to be a great show.  See a Video of Shihan that shows a bit about him and samples of his poetry.   And SMPS has been asked to provide some opening poets, so you may see someone you know!

January 14, 2012 at 1pm Philip Bryant, author of  Stompin’ at The Grand Terrace: A Jazz Memoir in Verse will present “Politics and Poetics Are Always Local” at the Southern MN Poets monthly meeting.  Box lunch and visiting at 12:30, Philip speaking at 1pm.  All poets and lovers of poetry are invited.  Read more about Philip here.

January 19, 2012 at 7:30pm Image and the Word Opening Reception.   Image and the Word is a photography-inspires-poetry annual event.  The 5th Annual Image and the Word exhibit will open with a fun night of poetry reading and comments from the photographers.  Past receptions have been great fun and this one will be the best yet!  Wine and snacks, great poems performed, wonderful photos to view and YOU get to vote on your favorites!
